Melastoma malabathricum is a shrub whose branches, petioles and pedicels are covered with small scales. M. malabathricum leaves are narrow, possessing 3 to 5 nerves and are usually 5 to 9 cm long. Its flowers vary from light to dark pink and have 5 petals. The flowers are arranged in around 5 to 10 clusters (Hsuan, 1990).
